Last Saturday the Keepers at Home group gathered for a meeting on food preservation and we all learned how to make strawberry jam.

We met together, made jam, picked strawberries, ate jam and bread, and enjoyed visiting together. I was asked to take pictures......I hope you all enjoy my documentation of the day:-)

Strawberries waiting to be processed.

The Meeting ~

Gathering together.

Mrs. Vernon, our hostess.

The girls.

Preparing to make jam~

Every girl got a basket (which later was to be filled with fresh berries), two jars to fill with jam (one to keep, and one to give as a gift), and a lovely apron that Kerah had made!

The girls loved their aprons:-)

Giving instructions...

Receiving instructions....

Serious little faces.

Hannah and Martha look on.

Making Jam ~

We used LOTS of sugar.

Geneva slicing berries.

Hard at work.

Pureeing berries in the food processor.

Who says work can't be fun?!

All our fingers were stained red:-)

Filling jars.

Even the little ones each filled their own jar.

Evidently putting on lids requires a lot of concentration:-)

Each girl put her name on her jars.

The fruits of our labor.....and our snack. Delicious!

Heading to the Strawberry fields ~
The children were allowed to ride to the field in the back of the truck - they were thrilled:-)

Kerah kindly rode with them.

An adventure!

Little friends.

I love this picture - and no, it was not posed:-)

Picking. This job always results in an aching back or knees......

All done, crashing with cold drinks.
The end of a fun day:-)

"Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it."
Isaiah 55:6,8-1
