Psalm Sing

"Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms." James 5:13

It is no secret to anyone who follows my blog that I love the Psalms, so I was happy when a couple weeks ago Pastor McCurley announced a Psalm Sing. Here are a few pictures from a special evening of singing, eating, and fellowship, and a quote on the Psalms from Calvin.

"Moreover, although The Psalms are replete with all the precepts which serve to frame our life to every part of holiness, piety, and righteousness, yet they will principally teach and train us to bear the cross; and the bearing of the cross is a genuine proof of our obedience, since by doing this, we renounce the guidance of our own affections, and submit ourselves entirely to God, leaving him to govern us, and to dispose of our life according to his will, so that the afflictions which are the bitterest and most severe to our nature, become sweet to us, because they proceed from him."

–John Calvin

The bulletin.

Arrival.....Jenny's sister and her 5 children from the UK are visiting us and this was their first time at GPC. It's easy to see that baby Katie was quite popular:-)

Lily Anne showing off her baby sister to all the little girls at church.

Two pretty sisters!

We gathered for a time of singing.

Another quote from Calvin ~ "Now what Saint Augustine says is true, that no one is able to sing things worthy of God unless he has received them from Him. Wherefore, when we have looked thoroughly everywhere and searched high and low, we shall find no better songs nor more appropriate to the purpose than the Psalms of David which the Holy Spirit made and spoke through him."

Part of my church family.

Sammy looks on from my lap.

Setting out refreshments.

It seems that nearly every GPC gathering includes brownies:-)

A time of fellowship.

Cousins.

Little friends - Daniel and Sammy. The little guy is growing up....he would rather hang out with the other children than be held....a little sad:-(
I did have a triumph though in that I finally got him to say my name - we've been working on it for weeks!

They found a stack of bulletins to play with.

Sharing....so cute! And this wasn't their only sharing....I caught them breaking a cookie in pieces, then feeding each other:-)

  1. Hello Stephanie,
I read your blog occasionally. This Psalmody looks to have been a wonderful time of praise and fellowship. Greetings from a fellow Psalm singer in Australia!

Intense Debate Comments

"Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it."
Isaiah 55:6,8-1
