Quotes of Augustine

After hearing the address on Augustine last Saturday, I read about him online and found these quotes -

"Because God has made us for Himself, our hearts are restless until they rest in Him."

"Resentment is like taking poison and hoping the other person dies."

"Right is right even if no one is doing it; wrong is wrong even if everyone is doing it. "

"Faith is to believe what you do not yet see; the reward for this faith is to see what you believe."

"Thou hast made us for thyself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it finds its rest in thee."

"Christ is not valued at all, unless he is valued above all."

"Patience is the companion of wisdom."

"What does love look like? It has the hands to help others. It has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy. It has eyes to see misery and want. It has the ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of men. That is what love looks like."

"Where your pleasure is, there is your treasure: where your treasure, there your heart; where your heart, there your happiness."

"God grants us not always what we ask so as to bestow something preferable."

"God has promised forgiveness to your repentance, but He has not promised tomorrow to your procrastination."

"Take up and read, take up and read."

" No one is able to sing things worthy of God unless he has received them from Him. Wherefore, when we have looked thoroughly everywhere and searched high and low, we shall find not better songs nor more appropriate to the purpose than the Psalms of David which the Holy Spirit made and spoke through him. And furthermore, when we sing them, we are certain that God puts the words in our mouths, as if He Himself were singing in us to exalt His glory."

Intense Debate Comments

"Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it."
Isaiah 55:6,8-1
